6. Energy efficient vendors working with Sustainability programmes
7. Unused sterile towels not thrown away – used for cleaning
8. Unsoiled patient bed liners not thrown in main bin but paper recycling bin
9. Establish a recycling system for paper, plastic and other materials
10. Zoned heating/cooling throughout unit
11. proRAD’s TURN IT OFF movement:
    • Invest in software to auto-shut down and reboot PCs between 7pm and 5am
    • Turn off CT rather than let it run idle after work hours
    • Turn off PACS between midnight and 5am
    • Motion Sensor toilet lights (our disabled toilet)
12. proRAD’s Waste Management Strategy:
    • Staged opening of procedure kits to prevent waste
    • Advanced contrast mixing protocols to reduce contrast waste
    • Investing in 24h contrast tubing to reduce excess plastic tubing use.
    • Cutting sharp ends of lines and disposing of non-contaminated tubing          in general waste to reduce incineration waste
    • Reducing unnecessary contrast use by only using contrast where required. 

At proRAD, we are fortunate to always have an on-site Radiologist who can evaluate multiphasic CTs e.g. CT brain, lung, KUB and adrenal studies, to determine at the time of scanning whether contrast is really required.
