Computed Tomography (CT) is a diagnostic imaging procedure that uses X-rays and computer technology to create detailed cross-sectional images of the body. The images generated by CT can provide much more detailed information than a traditional X-ray. The duration of a CT scan varies depending on the area of the body being scanned and the complexity of the procedure, typically taking between 5 to 30 minutes to complete. In cases where contrast material is required, the exam time may be longer.
Our GE Revolutions CT uses advanced AI, Iterative Reconstruction, Smart Metal Artefact Reduction and other cutting edge technology to significantly reduce dose and improve detection accuracy, making it ideal for all patients including young patients, high BMI patients, lung cancer screening and follow up oncology patients.
Why have I been referred for a CT scan (+/contrast)?
A CT scan uses X-rays and computer technology to create detailed images of your internal organs. You may have been referred by your doctor to investigate weight loss, abdominal pain or to monitor the progression of a known condition.
How should I prepare for a CT scan (+/contrast)?
You may be asked to avoid eating or drinking for a few hours before the scan, especially if you are receiving contrast dye. You should also inform your doctor if you have any allergies or kidney problems, as these can affect the use of contrast dye.
What will happen during my CT scan (+/contrast) appointment?
During the scan, you will lie on a table that moves into a large, circular machine. The machine takes X-ray images from different angles and a computer combines them to create detailed images of your organs. If you are receiving contrast dye, it will be administered intravenously (via your veins) before or during the scan.
