Why have I been referred for a pregnancy imaging scan?

Pregnancy imaging, such as an obstetric scan, is used to monitor the growth and development of the fetus during pregnancy. You may have been referred for a during your pregnancy for a 

  • Dating scan (unsures of dates)
  • Nuchal translucency scan (12 weeks)
  • Morphology scan. 
 

How should I prepare for a pregnancy imaging scan?

The preparation for a pregnancy imaging scan will depend on the specific scan being performed. We will send you pre-scan instructions once you have booked your appointment, whether it be online, over the phone, or in person.


What will happen during my pregnancy imaging scan appointment?

During the scan, you will lie on a table while a sonographer uses an ultrasound machine to take images of your uterus and fetus. The scan is painless and non-invasive, and typically takes 20 minutes to complete.
