Tomosynthesis 3D Mammography

A specialized mammogram that uses low-dose X-rays to capture multiple images of the breast from different angles to create a three-dimensional view. The duration of a 3D mammogram is similar to a traditional mammogram, typically taking around 10-15 minutes.

Why have I been referred for a 3D tomosynthesis mammogram?

You may have been referred for a 3D tomosynthesis mammogram to screen for breast cancer or to diagnose a breast abnormality.

How should I prepare for a 3D tomosynthesis mammogram?

You should avoid using deodorants, powders, or lotions on your chest and underarm area on the day of the mammogram. You should also wear comfortable clothing with separate top and bottom garments.

What will happen during my 3D tomosynthesis mammogram appointment?

During the mammogram, you will stand in front of a mammography machine while a technician compresses your breast between two plates. The machine takes multiple X-ray images of your breast from different angles to create a 3D image. Sometimes additional views may be required. The procedure is quick and typically takes 10-30 minutes.
